Learning Packages & Competencies To Be Completed


 INITIAL Packages & Competencies

The following theoretical packages must be completed PRIOR TO commencing the Central Hume Graduate Nurse Program at Benalla Health.  Please ensure that you print of any certificates you receive or please provide a ‘print screen’ to show that you have completed the package.  You will be expected to present the proof of completion on your first day of orientation.

The packages are:

  • Compass

The idea behind the ‘Compass’ name is to point you in the right direction, with the aim of improving the early recognition and timely management of deterioratingpatients. Follow the link, register, and undertake the ‘Adult Program’, download the ‘Adult COMPASS Manual’ read & the download and complete the quiz. http://www.health.act.gov.au/c/health?a=&did=11025490

  • PUPPS

There are three modules to complete. Total time to complete will be around 90 minutes.

  • Hand Hygiene

This will take around 10-15 minutes to complete. After completing the learning package and correctly answering all the questions please take the option to create a certificate with your name on it. http://www.hha.org.au/LearningPackage.aspx

  • Falls Prevention

Ensure you complete all three options as you will possibly be working in two or more of these clinical settings. http://www.health.vic.gov.au/qualitycouncil/fallsprevention/

  • Incident Reporting

Complete the online  Victorian Health Incident Management System (VHIMS) e-learning package including the quiz.  Print the Certificate of Completion at the end of the quiz and bring with you to orientation day.

  • Basic Life Support, Infection Control, Medication Administration, Nursing Occupational Health & Safety, Manual Handling & Central Venous Access Devices

  • BloodSafe

This is Australia’s most recognisedonline courses relating to clinical transfusion practice including blood specimen collection, transportation, use and patient blood management.  The aim of BloodSafe eLearning Australia is to improve clinical transfusion practice and patient blood management.

You must complete the following courses:

  • Clinical transfusion Practice (Modules 1 to 5) – duration 2 hours
  • Collecting blood specimens – duration 30 minutes
  • Transporting blood – duration 30 minutes

 The package can be accessed via https://www.bloodsafelearning.org.au/

  • Pain Management (Pain & Analgesia; Epidural)

There are three modules to complete. Total time to complete will be around 90 minutes.

  • Pain & Analgesia
  • Patient Controlled Analgesia
  • Epidural & Intrathecal Analgesia

You will be emailed the package on commencement.  


 
POST commencement Learning Packages & Competencies

The clinical competency program is currently being reviewed so requirements may change but currently the following must be completed WITHIN 3 MONTHS of commencement:

Working with Vulnerable Children

Via the Benalla Health intranet, complete the education package

Occupational Health & Safety

Via the Benalla Health intranet, complete the education package

  • No-Lift Self Directed Learning Package.
  • Fire and evacuation – Contact Melanie Johnson (OH&S Officer, ext 14372) to obtain link and password for the new online package.

Human Resourcing

Via the Benalla Health intranet, read the following procedures:

  • Managing diversity – Equal Employment Opportunity, discrimination and Harassment.
  • Human Resource Management

Practical assessments

Liaise with a Clinical Support Nurse, senior RN, or train the trainer to complete the practical components of:

  • PICC management
  • BLS
  • No Lift
  • Pain Management
  • Physical Assessment

Liaise with a Clinical Support Nurse to complete the practical components of:

Cardio respiratory assessment

Via the Benalla Health intranet, complete the education package:

  • ECG interpretation
  • Complete the basic and advanced quiz and submit to the Interprofessional clinical Educator.

Open Disclosure

The Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care is an independent statutory authority which is to lead and coordinate improvements in safety and quality in health care across Australia.  The Commission's open disclosure program aims to develop knowledge and tools to support jurisdictions and facilities implement the standard. It also aims to explore the legal barriers to performing open disclosure and recommend ways to address these.
